Raggedy Ass Falls

Another great day with the family, we visited one very amazing waterfall in our area.  This water fall is one of 4.  Raggedy Ass Falls are located on the Sand Brook Road near Hoyt NB.  The road does turn a bit rough getting to the falls I would recommend a SUV or Truck; however one can always park at the bridge and walk in to the falls.  The falls have a deep swimming pool at the bottom making this an excellent place to take a plunge of the cliff or just to sit and try some fishing.  The walk to the falls is thru a very picturesque gorge.  The trails are very easy walking/hiking and pretty well marked.  This is truly a very nice place to spend the day.

Raggedy Ass Falls, situated near Fredericton, New Brunswick, is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. Here’s what you need to know:

Trail Details:

Trail Name: Raggedy Ass Falls Trail

Difficulty: Moderate

Trail Type: Linear

Distance: Approximately 600 meters one way (20 minutes return)

Surface Type: Forested and rocky

Elevation Change: 45 meters

Trail Markers: Green and yellow paint

Scenery Rating: Beautiful

Access Options:

After crossing the South Branch Oromocto River, you have two choices:

Stream Route: Walk along the stream to reach the falls. Take either the first or second road on the right (50 meters or 100 meters from the bridge). The stream walk involves some wading and leads to a ravine with cliffs before the falls.

Main Trail: Continue up the main road for about 300 meters until you see a trail sign on the right. This trail passes through a mixed forest and crosses several small brooks.

The Waterfalls:

Lower Falls: The most significant waterfall plunges 3 meters into a deep pool. The water is so deep that even a ten-foot stick couldn’t touch the bottom. It’s an excellent spot for swimming when there’s good water flow.

Upper Falls: Climb up to the next waterfall to the right of the first one. Be cautious not to rip your pants on the jagged rocks. The second falls flow over a small 2-meter-high cliff.

Location:

Raggedy Ass Falls is on Nutter Brook, which flows southeastward through rock outcrops before converging with the South Branch Oromocto River.

Look for Sand Brook Road near Hoyt on Route 101 between Fredericton Junction and Welsford.

Interesting Tidbits:Name Origin: Raggedy Ass Falls derives its name from the jagged rocks that could easily tear the seat of your pants.

A deep bore hole (24 inches deep) exists at the top of the fourth falls, just large enough to put your arm down.

In summer, the upper pools may harbor large leeches.

Legend has it that someone discovered a swarm of eels using an underwater camera in the deep pool.

Next time you’re in the area, consider exploring this picturesque trail and immersing yourself in the beauty of Raggedy Ass Falls!

Another day at the Brook

We went down the brook a little further and found a nice little spot.  We took a tarp with us and hung it listing to the sound of the rain on the tarp was very relaxing.  I really love coming to this spot!  It is hard to believe a little there are people out there that rather spend time at the mall then come to a place like this, minutes from my house and its a FREE family day, not a penny spend except for the refreshments we take along.

How to make a boat

We went down to the brook where we like to hang out and relax after work.  My daughter couldn't find anything to do so I explained to her how my sisters and I used to build boats out of twigs bark etc etc and see who's boat would go the furthest.  My daughter had a great time build the boats and watching them sail away.  Mother Nature Lego Blocks...lol

Day in the Woods

I haven't posted in awhile, so I decided to post our little relaxing walk into the woods yesterday. No money needed for the family outing  just a pair of rubber boots and some imagination.

Well sadly summer is coming to an end.  Even thou it might have been a rainy afternoon we still decided to go to the woods and sit and relax at the brook.  My daughter was complaining she was getting a bit bored being away from her electronics and all, so I decided to show her how to build small tree fort out of twigs, branches and brush.  I have to say the complaining about being bored stopped with in minutes and as you can tell from the pictures she had a great old time.
