Hanwell Recreation Park

The Hanwell Recreational Park is a work in progress, with progress coming along really nice.  The community of Hanwell has gotten together and put in a lot of volunteer hours to put this park together for everybody to enjoy.    We stop in today and the progress all the volunteers have done is just amazing.  Picnic tables and a gazebo are now in place as well as well marked trails.

This park is an awesome place for snow-shoeing skiing and hiking in the winter, great way to spend the afternoon with the family.

Logging Road towards Tracy NB

The foliage under the ice was not frozen it was pretty cool to see all the movement.

This tree still had a few odd leaves on top at first sight it appeared it was cover with birds.  This logging road sure makes for a nice walking trail.  The road was ploughed for over 10km with many interesting nature sights.

Blue Jays

I put some old bread out this afternoon and with in minutes I could hear the sounds of Blue Jays.

The Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is a passerine bird in the family Corvidae, native to eastern North America. Here are some interesting facts about this striking bird:

Appearance:

Blue Jays are known for their perky crest and striking plumage.

They have a combination of blue, white, and black feathers.

Their noisy calls make them easily recognizable.

Habitat and Range:

Blue Jays inhabit most of the eastern and central United States.

Some eastern populations may be migratory.

Resident populations are also found in Newfoundland, Canada, and breeding populations occur across southern Canada12.

Behavior and Characteristics:

Jays are gregarious birds, often seen in groups.

They are also called jaybirds due to their noisy, garrulous nature.

Blue Jays are known for their intelligence and complex social systems with tight family bonds.

Interestingly, their fondness for acorns is credited with helping spread oak trees after the last glacial period21.

Fun Facts:

The Blue Jay is the provincial bird of Prince Edward Island in Canada.

They can imitate the sound of hawks when spotted, acting as alarm systems for other birds.

Blue Jays exhibit a pack mentality, sometimes behaving like bullies toward other birds.

And yes, they are very loud! 🎵🐦

Next time you spot a Blue Jay, take a moment to appreciate its vibrant colors and lively personality!
